We found this bakery after yelping gluten free on our travels and stopped in. While the gluten free selection wasn't large, the chocolate chip cookies were amazing. Moist, soft, thick and melted chocolate goodness. I wish I had bought more. She even decorated them for us for a special occasion. She also makes gf brownies but these were sold out, so it might be good to call ahead. She offers all sorts of standard brownies, cookies, Danishes, cakes, savory meat pies, lunch items etc.

I learned about Miss Angels Heavenly Pies from a segment on UNC-TV's "North Carolina Weekend" show and Miss Angel's own appearances on a couple reality television shows. The experience did not disappoint. The pies were, indeed, heavenly to smell, see, and taste. (Since my visit was on a quiet Sunday afternoon, I had the place nearly to myself. In the height of tourist season, Miss Angels gets very crowded, I am told.) The bakery occupies a prime spot in Mt. Airy, just up the street from the famous Snappy Lunch. A delicious aroma emerges as soon as Miss Angels door is opened, and a huge number of baked goodies come into view. Almost every variety of pie, cookie, and pastry is available, including the local specialty, fruit sonker (similar to a cobbler). The decor is very busy, a bit girly, and shows Miss Angel has some sass and pizazz! I liked the sarcastic humor of many of the signs and product descriptions. I tried the beef pot pie ($6.00), which was chocked full of beef, carrots, and potatoes. The crust was particularly flaky and perfect, though I would have liked some gravy in the filling. I took home a variety of "small" pies ($4.00-6.00), to sample as many as I could. A posted letter from a local celebrity praised the blueberry pie, and I must concur: one of the best versions I've had. I liked the blackberry and raspberry pies, though they needed to be a bit sweeter. The apple crumb pie was spot-on perfect. Miss Angels is a "must do" while visiting Mt. Airy. I can see a return visit to Miss Angels in my near-future!

Found this bakery on my way to Mount pilot state park. Lemon bar had a nice lemony taste to it. Refrigerated banana cream pie tin not so great due to the quality of the pudding. I also purchased a peach crumble pie that had strawberries in it. Looks great haven't tasted it yet.

An amazing array of pies and baked goods. On our visit we sampled the following: Apple Crumb Pie, HUGE Chocolate covered strawberries, an ENORMOUS cinnamon bun, a quiche, and a cherry/cheese danish. All of which were wonderful. We took home a few fruit pies and a few meat pies. All yummy. But the thing that makes this a 5 star experience is the family that own it and how they do business. Leftover pies are donated to charities and they sponsor all sorts of events which lead to charitable donations. We drove a good ways to get here as it was recommended by a foodie friend, and it was totally worth the trip. The owners made us feel like family. Good times, great pie, swell people. We'll be back again and again I suspect...

Stopped in after passing by the window and seeing amazing looking gigantic cupcakes. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs as everything looked so good. We ordered several things; Peanut Butter pie, Banana Cream Pie, a Banjo, and a homemade pretzel. We tried several bites of our sweets, but nothing was really great. Our pretzel was stale and crunchy as well. What a disappointment. I can't say I'd come back after trying four items that were kind of "meh." There were so many items, that it may be better to just have a few things to choose from and specialize than have 100 so-so items.

While enjoying Mayberry Days, I was excited to see the large tasty looking muffins in the window of this shop. But, the whole experience was a disappointment. There are baked goods sitting out on plates that should be kept behind the glass. The one employee was clearly not happy to be there. Other customers noticed her lackluster and uninterested attitude as well. I decided to try the Death by Chocolate brownie. It was dry. One thing a brownie can not be is dry. No matter what amount, or type of toppings can repair an overcooked, stale brownie.

I stopped at this shop on a recent visit to Mt Airy. The staff is as friendly as can be and really made me feel welcome while I made my decisions. There is a lot to choose from from small five inch pies to full size pies to cakes and cupcakes. They even sell lunch and dinner items like pizza and chicken pot pie. There was a lot to choose from and I know I am forgetting a lot of items that were available. The shop has an area to sit if you decide to eat there. I ordered the german chocolate pie, an apple pie and a pretzel. I wish I got a few more pretzels to go as they were so good. The shop was nice enough to hold the pie until I was ready to leave so I didn't need to carry it around town. I didn't eat any pie while there but both were amazing. The apple pie was so thick and filled with apples. I wasn't sure what to expect with the german chocolate pie but loving german chocolate cake just had to try the pie. It is my favorite for sure. The top crust has the consistency of a brownie and the filling is very creamy and so good. The flavors just go together so well. Whenever I return to Mt Airy, this shop will be my first stop as I want to try some of the other pie selections.
